Park Gunwoo from Dorim Elementary School, “Even if the opponent fouls, until the end.”

Park Gun-woo (152cm, G) of Dorim Elementary School revealed his attitude as a basketball player.

Daegu Dorim Elementary School concluded the preliminary match of the 1st Cheongyang Pepper and Koo Ja-bae National Men’s and Women’s Elementary School Basketball Competition held at Cheongyang-gun Gymnasium in Chungcheongnam-do on the 27th. The team suffered from elimination from the preliminary round with one win and two losses, but Park Gun-woo’s performance in the sixth grade was enough to attract attention.

In particular, the team contributed the most to the team’s 39-35 victory in the preliminary match against Changwon Sahwa-cho on the 25th. With all the players scoring and rebounding, Park Gun-woo played a full-time role with 22 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals and 1 block shot.

Park Gun-woo said, “The performance was good in the first half, but it was also shaky in the second half. I had to help my team members more inside, but my defense was weak.”

When asked about his strengths, Park Kun-woo, who is an authentic point guard, said, “Pass and attack are my strengths. I can shoot fast and outside shots well. I practice shooting a lot.”

Park Geon-woo, who scored most of his shots while running fast on the day, said, “However, we need to improve our defense.”

“This is something I always get pointed out by my coach as well. The opponent team’s center is often larger than ours, so we have to play a defense that helps together. We will supplement our physical strength and break through more confidently,” he said, pointing out what he needs to improve.

Cha Soon-yong, coach of Dorim Elementary School, called Park Geon-woo, “He has played basketball since he was a freshman in elementary school. He has excellent pass, dribble, shot, and defense skills in general. He needs to grow taller.”

Park Geon-woo also said, “I have to eat well and exercise hard to grow taller. I’m still fast, but I’m sure there will be many faster players when I go to middle school. I’m training to increase my focus to become faster,” vowing to improve.

Finally, Park concluded the interview by saying, “When shooting a shot, even if the opponent throws a foul, you need to concentrate until the end. As a guard, I will put a pass where I need to and become a player who makes good use of my chances to attack. I will try harder even when I become a middle school student with strong grit.”
