This week, yet another leading sports betting and iGaming provider has joined Ontario’s new regulated market. Most recently Altenar announced that it has received regulatory approval from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission to join the jurisdiction as a licensed online sportsbook and provider of iGaming technology to other locally registered brands.
After years of work, the province’s regulated online gambling and sports wagering market come to fruition on April 4, 2022, as it officially launched. The market is run and monitored by the AGCO and its subsidiary iGaming Ontario, which until now have registered over 20 sportsbooks and more than 30 gaming sites to legally operate in the province.

Last week, popular sports betting brand Sports Interaction also announced its entry into the newly regulated iGaming market. The company has been operating locally as a gray market operator for over 20 years and is now switching to a legal operator. Supervised by Mohawk Online, a socioeconomic initiative wholly owned by the Mohawk Council in Kanawak.
Fast forward this week, iGaming Ontario finally released its first financial report on the new market, but it’s lower than expected. For the first three months since its launch, total handling is C$4.076 billion, but revenue is C$162 million. Aigo’s report also noted that the state has 492,000 active player accounts and an average monthly expenditure of C$113.
